Finding a new book to read

Finding a book to read is something I find a exciting, it's not always about what latest book is out but about finding something that will take you away from your daily routine and into another zone. I haven't read a book for a while and I've been on the look out even asked posed the question to everyone on my Instagram and Snapchat, a few people did come back to me so thank you all for the recommendations. There isn't a particular genre that I will pick every time it's just about something that is a good interesting read.

I've been looking at a few books lately and I'm finding it a little difficult to choose one to start with, there is so many out there that sound so good in their own ways, here is what I've come across and been recommended so far.

Origin - Dan Brown
When I looked at this one a little further to find what it is about there was a lot, too much to write here! My understandings of the book is that Harvard professor, Robert Langdon visits a Museum in Bilbao, Spain to attend a major announcement and the host Edmond Kirsch, also a former student, is about to reveal a breakthrough. The evening turns into chaos and Langdon flees Bilbao with the museum director to Barcelona to try locate a cryptic password to unlock Kirsch's secret. Of course a lot more happens in between but this sounds very interesting.

We're going to need more wine - Gabrielle Union
Gabrielle Union has written a book which includes several chapters in which she talks about personal and true stories about power, color, gender, feminism and fame. Also she talks about different range of experiences including bullying, beauty standards, and competition between women in Hollywood, growing up in white California suburbia and then spending summers with her black relatives in Nebraska, coping with crushes, puberty, and the divorce of her parents. We only see what they want us to see and not what is behind closed doors, she appears to be very open in this book.

The anxiety solution - Chloe Brotheridge
This isn't your typical book but it is a guide to be a calmer, happier and more confident young woman which I think can be hard in the life we live in at the moment with constant pressures to be some kind of perfect person, it's not possible! If you have suffered with anxiety you will know the constant worries and fears on a daily basis whether they are at home, work, school or social situations. Chloe is a therapist and has used the latest scientific research and her own personal experiences to create programme which has helped thousands of women already to overcome fear and stress and back in control of their lives. Hopefully this will help me look at things differently.

Behind her eyes - Sarah Pinborough
The main character Louise had her husband walk out on her and her son and she's supporting them both with her part time job then she meets successful and charming man who is attracted to her but this all changes when she meets his wife, yes wife! When she gets to know them more the real side of the couple shows and are they what she thought they were?

Trafficked - Sophie Hayes
Sophie believed her life was falling apart with no one to turn to and feeling like no one cared about her and had a distrust in men due to her fathers cold dislike of her but there was Kas, he was always there for her to comfort her and she was so thankful. She went to visit Kas in Italy, the first few days were fine but shortly after things started to change he was being so cold towards her and expecting her to do things for "love". She was forced to sell her body on the streets working 7 nights a week to pay off his debts. She suffered regular verbal, mental and physical abuse from him and one day was admitted to hospital, she knew if she called her mother he would kill her but who reaches her first? This is actually based on a true story.

Dark places - Gillian Flynn
Libby Day was seven years old when her older brother murdered her family while she hid in a cupboard and her evidence helped put him away. For over 20 years she had been surviving on the "Libby Day fund" but money was running out and she was offered $500 to do a guest appearance and felt she had to accept. This was for a group known as The Kill Club, true-crime obsessives, who share information on notorious murders and they believe her brother, Ben, is innocent! Ben was a social misfit, he had a girlfriend but through her became involved with drugs and dark arts. Was he capable of murder?  Libby has to look deep into her family's past to find the truth.

Devil in a blue dress - Walter Mosley
Based in Los Angeles in 1948, Easy Rawlins is a war veteran who was just fired from his job. He was drinking in friends bar thinking how he is going to pay his mortgage when a white man in a linin suit walks in offering good money to find Miss Daphne Monet, a blonde beauty who has a reputation. He has a mission which he must rely on his instincts not to just save the case but to save his life too

Bad girls throughout history - Ann Shen
The 100 revolutionary women highlighted in this book were bad in the best sense of the word. What these woman accomplished was just pretty amazing from artists to scientists to warriors they challenged the status quo and changed the rules for all who followed. It pays tribute to inspirational females like:  Aphra Behn, first female professional writer. Sojourner Truth, activist and abolitionist. Ada Lovelace, first computer programmer. Marie Curie, first woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Joan Jett, godmother of punk.

I know there is still so many other books out there but this is what I've got on my list so far.

Have you read any of the above books or can recommend any other books you've enjoyed?
